MEMBERS & GUESTS WELCOMED BACK TO THE RETURN OF THE
BCFTA ANNUAL DINNER 2022
The President, Daniel Hughes and the Executive Committee were so pleased to welcome Members and their guests to the 2022 Annual Dinner held at the Mercure Grand Hotel, Bristol. After an absence of two years, it was great to see everyone without the aid of Zoom, Teams or other such virtual media; whilst those channels have come into their own during the pandemic.
An awful lot has happened since the last annual dinner took place in 2020. The trade has experienced a tumultuous couple of years which has seen a major global health pandemic, dramatically rising raw material costs and of course, the conflict that still wages in Eastern Europe.
We do not need to write chapter and verse on these difficult times except to acknowledge that, as always, the UK feed supply trade has dealt with everything in its path with such expertise and stoicism. Efficient supply chains obviously depend on all links working together as one and this has been so apparent of late as shippers, manufacturers, port operators and hauliers have all played their part in keeping the nation’s food supply chain intact. Today, the risks to the UK food supply chain are complex and unprecedented. It is essential that the whole industry now works together to exert pressure on the UK government to put food security high on its agenda and establish a robust food policy that protects British producers and consumers alike.
The President was pleased to report to attendees that BCFTA has been able to support its members throughout these challenging times, mainly through the continuation of training courses enabled through the establishment of an online training portal, or the more traditional way of late. He thanked Victoria Bywater and her team for all their hard work and input into the training programmes and organisation of all aspects of the dinner and the Grand Hotel for hosting us once again.
